SALE! SALE! SALE! Black Friday

Sale Well I guess it’s sale time!  A Black Friday sale.  The leaves have mostly fallen and everything is starting to look rather drab and cold.  A lovely bright  handwoven scarf may be just what is needed to lift your spirits. Cotton, bamboo, or wool all scarves are handwoven approximately 8″ wide and nice and long so you can wrap them around your neck for extra warmth.     Ravelry Bump of the Month for December “Sugar Plum Fairy” Ravelry Spin-along: Colour Study. The Approach of Fall.

The Approach of Fall.

The Approach of Fall. Our September Bump of the Month was “Deciduous”. Mine will become a pair of socks. I’ve reached the boring part of sock knitting.  The cuff.  Don’t know what it is about the cuff but I love knitting the foot and turning the heel. Toe up socks are so much easier to fit and gauging your yarn is simpler to. No left overs. So glad I found this pattern many years ago. I haven’t made a top down pair of socks in forever. The yarn is a 22 micron merino, spun fine and navajo plied. I spun the...

I’ll spare you any further comments on this except to say this had better not happen again microsoft or this person will quickly convert to Apple. The tops have all been sent out to...

Ravelry Spin-along: Colour Study

Progress on September Bump The September bump was a surprise for many. It was actually 2 rovings in one. One brown and one multi-coloured. I chose to spin the 22 micron Merino. . Progress I looked at the roving and all I could see is the orange. Orange is not one of  my favourite colours.  Perhaps I should remove the orange from the roving and work with the balance. In the end I decided to use to spin a navaho plied sock yarn in basic brown with stripes using all the colours. If I had removed the orange the colours would have been much more...

Dish Towels

Dish Towels Well, I finally finished weaving the dish towels and took them off the loom yesterday. It seemed to take forever this time, probably because the summer was so nice it was hard to drag myself into the studio.  Beautiful Huck Lace in blues and some plain weave purple and blue. Now for the hemming. Only 4 months to Christmas. What’s next? I always seem to run out of blue towels so I think I will do a wedgewood blue and natural in Huck Lace as it is my most popular pattern. Now to go wind 400 ends of warp threads....

Ravelry Spin-along: Colour Study August

I plied my yarn last night. I had decided I would try a novelty yarn. In reality I’m a very vanilla spinner so this is a real leap for me. My drafting is very relaxed. I simply enjoy the feeling of the fibres slipping between the fingers of my right hand and using my left only when needed.  Colour changes in the roving are soothing. The challenge of making a novelty yarn. Spinning thick and thin for this spin-along is a real challenge when you have spent years trying to perfect your technique to make an even spun yarn. I found my left...

Ravelry Group

I have started a new group on Ravelry. It’s a Spin-along – Colour Study. Approximately every month or so the group will spin a hand-dyed roving from mohair8 at UpperCanadaTexiles.ca. Participants are encouraged to submit information and photos as they make decisions leading up to and during the spinning project. The more material we each submit the more useful this group will become to each and every one of us when planning future projects. No two spinners spin the same way. Therefore their results will be different. That is what...
