Hand Cranked Superwash Wool Socks
Our hand cranked superwash wool socks are made to fit by shoe size, starting at a Ladies’ size 5 up to a Mens’ 14.
Legare 400 CSM
Our socks are knitted on our Legare 400 hand cranked circular sock knitting machine which dates back to the early 1900’s. We turn our heels and toes on the machine by hand-manipulating the yarn and needles. We finish the toes by using a seamless Kitchener stitch technique to avoid that uncomfortable toe seam. Our socks are washed, air dried and steam pressed before sale.
We knit our socks from either a 4 ply commercially dyed superwash sock yarn or a 3 ply merino hand dyed superwash sock yarn. The 3 ply merino is a softer blend; both are a blend of 75% superwash wool/25 nylon. No latex or elastic is used. I use a Lycra thread with most socks (unless otherwise indicated) carried with the yarn to give body and enhance memory shape. Therefore, the comfort aspect of these hand made socks is amazing. Our socks are not only warm and soft, they conform seamlessly and comfortably to your foot.
Machine wash. I recommend air drying as the preferred drying method to a dryer but they can be put in a dryer on a warm not hot setting.
